When Slumdog Millionaire won best picture

Freida Pinto at Oscar After Party (AP/Chris Pizzello)
When Slumdog Millionaire won best picture last night, I wished everyone on stage would break out in dance to “Jai Ho” in celebration. That is what I would have done if I were there. I love the Bollywood spirit and hope and I also am a fan of Bollywood inspired clothing. Even Freida Pinto’s Oscar dress was a fabulous (formalwear) example of this.

Indian inspired clothing, particularly indo western wear, isn’t necessarily a new trend in the United States. This style has been popular and had an influence in many hip-hop clothing lines, but it’s starting to catch on outside of just the Indian culture and hip-hop world.

Look out for colorful bright prints on dresses and tunics, sequined embellishments, and sheer and lacey fabrics. I’m not saying to go all out and don a sari; just a cute dress for the spring or a beautiful, flowy top with your favorite pair of jeans would look lovely.

There’s also jewelry, with big bold jewels that really make a statement (which is also really hot right now) and handbags inspired by the style as well. Here in Chicago, you can shop on Devon Avenue, Chicago’s very own “Little India,” or look out in top department stores for the indo inspired designs. There’s also a whole slew of websites of course, where you can shop online.

Magic To Hit Bollywood

Countless times have we seen the legendary author Jane Austen’s books being brought to life on screen. Besides the many many classic English versions, Bollywood’s own Aishwarya Rai has been seen in two films based on the authors books, Gurinder Chadha’s Bollywood inspired Bride and Prejudice and the Tamil version of Sense and Sensibility titled Kandukondain Kandukondain, which also starred Tabu . However, Bollywood audiences are still awaiting their very own adaption of a Jane Austen classic. Well, the wait is over Anil Kapoor promises with his new home production.

That's right, the word is final. The Jane Austen classic Emma will be adapted for Indian audiences in a project titled Ayesha. The camera starts rolling this April with Abhay Deol in the role of Emma/Ayesha's secret love. Along with Abhay the movie will star newcomer Arunodoy Singh who plays the role of the Victorian Casanova.

Now whose our Emma, or shall we say Ayesha you ask? Well none other than daddy's girl Sonam Kapoor whole be sporting an ultra chic and glam avatar for this home production.

Although the news of the moment is the rumor of Dad Anil Kapoor playing Sonam's onscreen father too in the film. No last word has been given on this news because Anil remains hesitant at the idea of playing Sonam's father when he still acts opposite actresses like Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor.

Whatever the end result may be we simply cannot wait to see this Jane Austen classic of the Victorian Age being brought to life on our very own Desi screens! Keep visiting BollySpice and we're sure to keep you updated on what may just be the most exciting venture of the year!

Nauseating 'Slum-God Billionaire' hits Mumbai theatres

In fact, ever since the success of Danny Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire" Bollywood celebrities have had their knickers in a knot. Not to be outdone, a so-called director [known to the cops as having underworld links] has financed a hastily produced gargantuan nightmare titled "Slum-god Billionaire".

Bollywood directors are known for shamelessly ripping off Hollywood story lines and re-packaging them into 3-hour ridiculous song-and-dance packages guaranteed to bring on world class migraines.

Interviewed at his palatial highrise mansion overlooking the Dharavi slums where "Slumdog Millionaire" was filmed, director Big Boss Chorwala angrily denied claims of plagiarism swearing: "Whyfor you are challenge me? I had idea oph Slum-god Billionaire picture before that Boyle-wala".

When confronted about the extraordinary co-incidence of his film's title, Mr. Chor yawned, scratched his armpits and said "Arre Yaar...Mumbai eej phull oph slum-wallahs who are becoming god-wallahs and taking all yewer monies then they are becoming Number Vun billionaire-wallahs. Eet eej my life ishtory!

"See i am vanting to show real side oph Eendeeya - we are not haveeng slums. Boyle-saab is only talkeeng about lakhpati but we are having plenty of crorepati in India.

"So that eej how i am coming up weeth thees too-good titul no? My mind-blowing fillum is cent percent going to vin Oskar also - i am threatening lots oph peepul already"

The film has been strongly condemned by critics as the worst case of blatant plagiarism imaginable - featuring every disgruntled, extorted Bollywood male celebrity (beholden to Mr. Chor) howling horrible love songs to cardboard moon cutouts while plump, overfed sirens of yesteryear jiggle juicily around plastic palm trees set in the Swiss Alps.
